The project aims to develop aerobic, thermophilic cell factories for the production of valuable biomaterials, carotene compounds, for the chemical industry, directly from underutilized biomass, cf. seaweed and biomass generated in agriculture, fisheries and forestry.
Utilization of renewable biomass in the chemical industry is one of the key factors in the development of the bioeconomy. ThermoExplore will contribute to success in this field and at the same time increase the competitive position and profitability of the growing Icelandic biotechnology industry.
